General Info

Staff training is mandatory for all new staff. It’s also really fun! Our goal is for new staff to experience the magic of Avid4 Adventure camp firsthand. Through a mix of virtual and in-person sessions, your training is designed to mimic a week of camp and will involve plenty of hands-on training, role playing as both instructors and campers, and lots of practical information. Our goal is to equip you with the knowledge, skills and excitement you need to become an Avid 4 Adventure instructor. ****

Specialist Assessments

In addition to the general new staff training all first year staff hired in one of our Specialist roles below, are required to attend a one to two day training and assessment that will take place before or after new staff training. These assessments apply to specialists in all program locations (Overnight, Expeditions and Day Camp).

These are pass/fail assessments on which you will be provided feedback on the same day. If you do not pass the assessment, we will still love to have you as an instructor for Avid, just not in the Specialist role.

If hired into one of these roles, please check your employment letter for dates and times of your specific Specialist training. More specifics, such as the exact location of each day, will be sent to you closer to your training date.

Before you come to training, you should feel confident in the technical skills listed below and have plenty of experience in these activities. If you need to brush up on anything, please do so well in advance of training.

For a description of each role, check out **our positions** page.
