Our Story

Avid4 Adventure was founded in 2004 out of a dream to inspire young people to develop a passion for adventure and become dedicated stewards of the outdoors. Over the years, Avid4 Adventure grew from a traveling school education program to now serving over 9,000 campers across four states. And we are only just beginning.

Avid4 Adventure was born out of my desire to give kids a love of outdoor activity and to ensure the future caretaking of our planet. With declining youth participation in sports, decreasing physical education budgets in schools and increasing screen time, I saw a need not just to get kids outside, but to set them on a trajectory of lifelong outdoor adventure and stewardship. Being active outdoors is not only good for kids physically. Outdoor experiences are powerful and empowering. They are punctuation points in our lives that shape our confidence and character. Our camps give kids both a place to start and plenty of room to grow outdoors as they build skills in a wide range adventure sports, including mountain biking, hiking, kayaking, rock climbing and paddling. From helping a 3-year-old achieve better balance on a strider to teaching a 12-year-old to navigate single track terrain, we build kids’ skills, confidence, grit and determination, teaching a new generation of adventurers to thrive in the outdoors. - Dave Secunda, Founder

Our Mission

We empower kids to choose active, outdoor lifestyles.

It’s as simple as that! From the programs we teach to the way we train and empower our instructors, everything we do here at Avid centers on our mission. Kids (and let’s be honest, adults too) spend far too much of their time connected to screens. It impacts not just our physical health, but also our mental wellbeing and peace of mind. Kids are disconnected from the natural world, and from the joy of authentic outdoor adventure. We get kids off their phones and into the outdoors.

Leave No Trace Certified

We are proud to be the first youth outdoor education program to become Leave No Trace certified. By taking care of the land we recreate on, society can continue to enjoy these spaces for generations to come. Learn more about Leave No Trace at their website.
